An ancient solution to a modern-day problem

For tens of thousands of years, humans have grown through tribe, story, belonging and accountability. Modern life has given us more ways to connect than ever, but too many people still feel isolated, unsupported and disconnected from themselves and each other. ReTribe is about remembering our humanness and bringing people back into trusted communities where connection creates accountability, and accountability helps us grow.

The disconnection problem. Sport gives people structure, identity, belonging and purpose. But too often, the human being behind the performer is left to carry pressure alone.

Players face performance demands, public scrutiny, injury, selection pressure, transition and life beyond the game. Coaches carry responsibility for culture and performance.
Officials stand in the middle under constant judgement. Parents are often left trying to support the journey without enough guidance. ReTribe exists to build connection before people become isolated, to create accountability before people drift, and to support the person behind the role. This starts in ice hockey, but the human challenge is bigger than one sport.

Connection. Community. Accountability. ReTribe helps people build trusted tribes where they can check in, share honestly, access tools, take part in guided conversations and stay accountable to the things they know they need to do.

The work is grounded in lived experience, sport psychology and the Tough Through Tender framework, bringing together human performance, emotional awareness, values, resilience and peer support. ReTribe is delivered through three connected routes.

ReTribe Roadshows

ReTribe Roadshows bring the work into face-to-face environments, giving teams, clubs, leagues and federations practical tools and shared language for positive culture change within their own ecosystem. These sessions help people understand connection, accountability, emotional awareness and leadership in a way that can be used immediately in the changing room, on the bench, in the stands and throughout the club.

Reset Retreats

Reset Retreats give people space to step away, reconnect and reset.

They are designed for deeper personal growth, helping individuals and groups slow down, reflect, rebuild connection and return with clearer purpose, stronger accountability and a better understanding of themselves and their tribe.

Players
Supporting players through pressure, identity, performance, transition and life inside and outside the game.
Coaches
Helping coaches lead people, not just performance, through connection, values and human-centred leadership.
Officials
Supporting the people who stand in the middle, carry pressure and help protect the integrity of the game.
Parents

Beyond hockey
The same human needs exist in other high-pressure environments. ReTribe’s principles can also support other sports, ex-military communities, service organisations and corporate teams where connection, trust, accountability and belonging matter.

Tough Through Tender is the human framework behind ReTribe.

Developed by Dr Misia Gervis, it helps people understand the full spectrum of human performance, from toughness, resilience, strengths, values and purposeful practice, through to compassion, self-awareness, acceptance and being anchored. This is about balance. Strength without force. Compassion without weakness. Accountability with care.

The power of storytelling - The ReTribe Podcast

Stories have always been part of hockey. The locker room, the bus rides, the shared memories, the hard lessons and the conversations that stay with us. The ReTribe Podcast uses storytelling to help shift culture through honest conversations with players, coaches, officials, parents and people who understand the human side of performance.
These stories are not about preaching. They are about helping people feel less alone, see things differently and remember what it means to belong.

Real support. Real lives. For many players, the hardest part is not asking for help. It is knowing where they belong when the structure of sport changes.

River’s story shows how ReTribe can support someone through active playing, transition out of the game and ongoing life beyond hockey. Through tribe, accountability and connection, he found structure, support and a team again.
